Colombia is divided in to 32 states. The president is elect by majority vote and serves for 4 years. Colombia has a bicameral congress composed of 102 members in the senate, and 166 members in Chamber of Representatives. 100 of the senators are elected by a proportional representation system, the last 2 senators are elected by indigenous communities. Representatives are also elected by a proportional representation system. Colombia's Judicial branch is independent.
political landscape:
The Presidents social party of National Unity is the largest political party in Colombia, it also holds the greatest number of seats in the senate. The Liberal Party and the Conservative party are 2 other major political parties, they are the forefront of Colombian politics. The government faces challenges from Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia and the National Liberation Army, they often commit kidnappings, drug trafficking, and extortion in order to finance there insurgency.
Government and the people:
The Constitution respects freedom of religion and press, rights such as freedom of assembly and association are limited because of violence. Elections are constantly bothered by situations such as vote-buying, intimidation, and suspicious campaign financing. All citizens ma vote at the age of 18.
opinion of government:
I believe the Republic government, is a good type of government cause its balanced no one group can completely control another group. It gives rights to peoples religion and press, but because of the violence, the people of Colombia have to be limited to some things, since it could cause complete chaos.
